Who We Are
More than a candle business.
A door to economic freedom.
Beacon by the Bay was born from a simple observation: the women of our fishing community were resourceful, resilient, and deeply skilled — but had few avenues to turn those qualities into income. Most watched their husbands and fathers head out to sea while they managed homes and children on unsteady earnings. We wanted to change that.
Starting with a rented room, secondhand moulds, and a lot of trial and error, we trained women from the community in candle-making — from pouring wax to packaging and selling. Today, every candle you buy carries a name, a story, and a family supported.
Our Commitment
Gender Equality
We believe economic independence is the foundation of gender equality. By giving women of the fishing community a skill, a platform, and a paycheck, we are building equity from the ground up — one household at a time.
Decent Work & Economic Growth
Every candle sold puts money directly into the hands of the woman who made it. We are building a dignified, sustainable micro-enterprise, not charity. These women are entrepreneurs, and they are just getting started.
The Heart of It
Not products. People.
When you buy a Beacon by the Bay candle, you are not buying a product off a shelf. You are supporting a mother who learned a new skill at 38. A grandmother who now contributes to her family's income. A young woman who no longer has to wait for the fishing boats to come in to know if there will be money this week.
The sea gives the men of our community a livelihood. We are building one for the women who have always kept everything running on shore.
